How True It Is Today

As we found ourselves Christmas shopping last night, I had a twinge of missing traditions from my younger years and wanting back some normalicy for what I always considered Christmas to be. Including early morning present opening at my parents house and waiting patiently on the stairs for my Grandparents to come through the school room to watch us tear into brightly wrapped packages under the tree. Being a a furious, but not so mad rush to get showered and dressed to go to my Grandparents house to see what Santa had left there. A fabulous lunch of ham and funeral potatoes eaten on paper Christmas plates and then off to the Hjorth family for some quality family time. Ahh...sigh of relief, that was Christmas. Since Miss Libbi, there are a few new families to visit and I find myself very stressed and stretched very thin to make sure that we spend quality time with everybody and contribute to all their traditions as we see fit. Gone are the restless moments at the top of the stairs, replaced are moments waiting for Libbi to wake up and open the presents that Santa so carefully picked out for her, hoping that I found just the right "surprise" present for Kyle since he likes to know well in advance what he's getting as to not be disappointed. I always surprise him, he hates it, I love it! Then off to Kyle's Grandma's for a morning with extended family and brunch. With a few moments of quiet downtime before we are off to spend some time with my family. We have a few other grandparents house to fit in, which include just a quick visit, but it is a necessity and I will always insist on it because I feel that family is one of the most important parts of growing up and I want Libbi to know all the people who love her and to feel like she has had some sort of relationship with her Great-Grandparents. I want Christmas to be perfect, but we always end up in a little tiff about time and where we are supposed to be at that moment. This morning, I came into work and read my horoscope listed below.

Libra (Sep 23 - Oct 22)
Perhaps you really thought that this holiday season would be different. And maybe, to a limited extent, it is. But it still might not match up to your vision of how you wanted to revitalize some of the old traditions that could put you in touch with your roots. Don't fret about a lost opportunity; there's no time like the present moment to begin. Create your own magical celebration and share it with someone special.

What a perfect description of my last month of worrying. I am ready to begin new family traditions with my little family and hopefully, one day, Libbi will remember those traditions and think that 'this' is Christmas.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and safe travels in your Christmas Traditions.

Oh No!

So Saturday night, I lost my phone. I have no idea where it is and I can't find it. So....if you have been trying to call me or text me....I didn't get it. It's a bit strange to be phoneless, it's been a long time since that happened. Maybe I'll find it soon.

It's Christmas Time!

Last week we were given a gingerbread house by our activities committee to make during our team parties. We had a meeting to decide what we were going to do with this new challenge. (Remember Halloween a few posts back, we thought we were going to win and we lost. Boo on the judging.) This is the finished product. In case you can't see what it is, it's a gingerbread trailer park. But since we didn't want to offend anybody, we changed it to the redneck Christmas. It is pretty funny and inventive.

This is a bad picture of us getting everything ready for the final touches. I won't tell you how we "bent" the rules to make sure everything stayed together, just know that we put everything together on Wednesday and decorated Thursday without worrying about our trailers breaking. You should all be impressed with my frosting making skills. I guess all those hours at the gingerbread party with my mom's family finally paid off. Thanks for teaching me how to make gingerbread houses. This one was fun because we through out all the traditional ideas about it and created something fun.
Here it is, the finished product with our 3 trailers, green grass and random assortment of redneck accessories. We got creative and built telephone poles, dog houses, train tracks, on the roof of the gingerbread house is a light up sleigh and reindeer. Below are some pictures of the finer details of the trailer park. Remember that I work for Marriott......when you see the Hilton sign on a trailer.

Yup, that's Libbi's Monster Truck. She picked it out all by herself and then told Kyle last night when the monster truck commercial come on that she wanted to to. I told him he was more than welcome to take her, but I wouldn't be going.

We did a good job, now we'll have to see who wins. A big thank you to Somer for putting it all together, Jess and Daysi and Leigh for all there help and the rest of our team who put their own touches here and there. Oh yeah, and to our manager and team lead for being so supportive of this activity, in more than one way.

Saturday afternoon, we had all this freshly fallen snow and I happened to glance out the window to see how much snow we had gotten and saw this on the front lawn.

We decided it was a paragon falcon and it was eating some type of bird, since there were feathers all over the new white snow. It was scary neat. A once in a life time moment, but it kinda freaked me out a little. Shortly after I took the picture, he picked up his prey and flew to the tree to finish eating...What a weekend!

A Glimmer of Me in Her......and a Few Other Things

Libbi is her father's daughter in many ways, they look just like each other, they like the same things and they have very similar personalities just to name a few. However, I have started to notice Miss Libbi has some tendencies that I had long ago...ok I still have them, I'm just more self conscious of them. Kjerstin and I spent many hours converting the pre-school room table to our stage. Depending on the time we had depended on how elaborate the stage was. There was always bad singing with pretend microphones, sometimes a real microphone, sometimes it was an object that doubled as a microphone. The dancing was even more atrocious and anybody in the house was either "invited" to attend and watch or was a part of the show. All I can say, I love my parents for putting up with the random, annoying shows I made them sit through all those years ago. (I am trying to find a very embarrassing photo of one of these shows, but I currently don't have any on my work computer! :) I'll have to petition my mom to dig them out.)

This is the glimmer of me in her....lately when she hears a song on the tv or radio that she knows and likes, she runs for her echo microphone to sing along and dance. She will stop whatever it is she is doing and run for her microphone. She will continue this as long as she thinks nobody is watching. She isn't quite over her stage fright yet. Frequently you can hear her singing along with the radio from her car seat. Everything from Metallica to Country...it's pretty funny. Now, she has always been a fan of Hannah Montana on the Disney channel and has been singing one line from the opening song. You can hear this randomly through out the house or into her little hand balled up like a she's holding a microphone in it. "You get the besk of boat words!" The real line is "You get the best of both worlds." She is so darn cute! There is hope for my little ballerina! Now, if I could only convince her that dress up isn't bad!

Last night a couple of girls I work with and I went to see the Twilight movie! I was planning to wait until it came out on DVD, just to see if I really wanted to see the movie, but I really enjoyed it. I tend to agree with my mom's idea's of it a little, but it was great for a low budget, 500 page book. I'm looking forward to more to come. Other than that, we are just getting ready for Christmas and enjoying life.

I'm a Esme! I found out through TwilightersAnonymous.com. Which Twilight Female Are You? Take the quiz and find out!

You are thoughtful and care very deeply for your family. A loving home is of great
importance to you and you always try to make people feel welcome. Although you have a great capacity to love, you also have a great capacity to hurt, so at times you can be
sensitive. You're firm when you need to be, but people trust your judgment and
appreciate the kind way you always handle things.

Random Libbi Moments

Last night as we were trying to go to sleep, we were watching the news and the sports section was on. They were showing the stuff about the Utes going to the Sugar bowl. I thought Libbi was asleep because she was being so quiet and still and I heard this, "They aren't supposed to be red, they are supposed to be blue, like the Aggies! Not red, it's blue....." She kept mumbling under her breath about how they were supposed to be Aggie blue not red. Oh, I raised a good little Aggie who always picks the right True Aggie Blue!

The Time Came.....And a Few Other Random Items

Last night Libbi and I were in Wal-Mart picking up random things that we needed. One of the items on the list was night time pull-ups for her. I think the fact that we have left her in them so long was a security issue for us, not because she needed them. So last night, she decided she would rather have this:

(Nevermind the look, she had just woken up and wasn't really happy to be awake.)

Than these:

So far, we are one night down dry, many more to go! I hope this is the incentive for her to not want a pull up to sleep. I'm very impressed with her and hope that this works. She even decided this morning that she wanted to take Mermaid to Grandma Cynthia's house so that she could wear them tonight. Best of luck to my mom, secretly there is a pull-up in the bottom of her back-pack.

Ok, on to other things. Since those books have consummed my life all week, I haven't gotten around to blogging all the things we actually did this week. Since Libbi has a new found excitment for Christmas lights, Monday night we decided to take her down to Temple Square to see the lights. We drove around for 20 minutes trying to find a parking spot and then had to wake her up to walk 2 1/2 blocks to the grounds to look at lights. The problem with taking pictures in the dark with out the flash is....they turn out blurry, but if you turn the flash on, then you don't get the full effect of the lights. So here are some pictures of Kyle and Libbi walking around looking at lights. Libbi loved it. We'll have to take her back when it's not so crowded and when we have her stroller so we can look at all the lights without having to hold her the whole time.

Also, the mustang got covered for the winter. Kyle is sad...but I'm not sure how excited he would be to work on it in the cold and dark of winter. They moved it to our backyard, so that they had a spot the the Samuelson's back yard to work on the trucks as needed through the winter. Good-bye mustang, see you in the spring!

(I didn't take these pictures.....sorry they are fuzzy!)

It's Over.....

So maybe I can get back to my life and not worry about what's going to happen next in those books! I was not so thrilled with the ending....it was kind of a let down. But I'm not one to spoil books, so if you haven't read it, I'm not telling you how it ends! Back to real life!

I Caved......and I Love It!

Alright, so I was against reading the Twilight series for multiple reasons, one of them is....I hate reading one book that I know it is part of a series had have to wait a looooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg time for the next book. I love to read, but I hate waiting for something. And so I waited until just the right moment to read that blasted Twilight series.....and then I waited some more (thanks to Zoe my cousin and her forgetful brain.) And FINALLY Zoe brought me the series, all 4 books, on Thanksgiving. Guess how many of them I've read:

Ok, not quite all four of them yet, I'm about half way through book 4. I can't decide if I love the series or if I'm just engrossed in finishing it. See, this is why I have to read all of them at once and not wait for them to come individually. I've been dreaming vampires for the last 3 nights. They are well written, but slightly predictable and can get repeatative. Now I know you are all going to say....I love these books don't trash them, to those people, to each his own. This is only my theory on them and I am entitled to my own opinion. So there! I am enjoying them and I will be sad when they are finished, that I'm certain of. Kyle will be happy, I don't think he's ever seen me read, to the point that I'm don't care if I eat or sleep and I can ignore the world around me until I'm finished with the book. Not quite as easy as it used to be, not with Libbi demanding attention. Oh well, it just makes it last longer so I can enjoy it more. And all of a sudden there seems to be a crazy around me of people who are going to read them or finish reading them. I took the quiz, to see what character I would be and found out the following:

You're Bella Swan - You are intelligent and kind but not quite sure what you want out of life yet. You have a feeling there's something more out there for you. You're attracted to those who are real and avoid the fake. Sometimes you're a bit accident prone, but your true friends will always be loyal to you and come to your aid when you need it.

Alright, back to this book.....I can hear it calling me.....I probably won't get anything accomplished this afternoon....

Brights Spots after a Long Day!

I went to pick Libbi up from daycare or school as we have started calling it lately only to find my perfect little angel in the time out corner. While this is not an unusual sight at home, it is a fairly unusual sight for school. When I walked into her room, I saw her sitting in the corner, by herself with her sad "I know I'm in trouble and I'm really sorry about it" look. I asked her why she was there and got this response from the teacher. "She was playing around and not listening during movie time." What?!?! Did you really expect a 3 year old to sit very quietly at 7:00 pm and watch a movie and not get bored and start finding things to entertain herself?!?! I certainly don't. In fact, I often wonder what she's up to if she is watching a movie and it's been quiet to long or I haven't seen her for a while. Oh well, I guess the teacher thought it was warranted that she be in time out for being naughty. She only got to come out after she apologized to her teacher and said she was sorry. Off we went. We had a discussion in the car about why we have to be nice to our friends and listen to our teachers all the time. She was sad because she knew she had done something wrong....until we got home.....
(I know, you are all waiting for that bright spot, wait for it, wait for it) As we pulled into our circle I hear a little voice in the back say,

Libbi: "We need to create our house."
Me: "We need to what?"
Libbi: "We need to create our house...you know like Travis and Sheri's house."
Me: "Oh, you mean decorate our house?"
Libbi: "That's what I said we need to decreate our house."

We get out of the truck and start walking over to Travis and Sheri's where Kyle was and as we walked by a few other houses she continues this conversation.

Libbi: "We need to decreate our house like the lights on that house and that other house are decreate." (I know what you are thinking, the word is decorated, but she kept calling it decreate.)

So I am assuming that this weekend, the Christmas decorations will be coming out and placed around the house so that Libbi can 'decreate' the house. Oh how I love Christmas and lights on the houses and the spirit of Christmas! I'm very excited for Christmas and the season!

Playing Some Catch Up!

Today seems to be a slower day around here at Marriott, so I'll catch up my blog. Lot's of fun things happened this weekend and with such a short week, I hope everybody has a very Happy Thanksgiving, unless you talk to Libbi, it's Turkey day!
Ok, so here is the best news of the weekend, Kyle brought his 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe home.He loves it. That's all that matters, so for Christmas, he is request parts for the Mustang. Dusty has been referring to the Mustang as the "Rustang," but all things considered, it's not that bad. Don't get me wrong, the car if 40+ years old and there are some parts that need some love and attention. It is most definitely a diamond in the rough, but one day it will all be worth it. According to Kyle, (most of this I've caught as I'm trying to listen to him talk about it) is that the engine is sort of new (see picture), (Don't ask me what size or kind, I don't know.) it has a new distributor cap and plugs and wires. The dash is new, but not installed, the seats are conveniently missing, but that's not a big deal. However, in the boxes that accompanied the car on its way to our back yard, there are many new cosmetic pieces. After looking at all the pieces, the good news is all the new pieces total up to being more than Kyle paid for the car. YEAH! So if he were to sell the pieces from the car that are new, the car would still be free. The down side, like I already mentioned, the pieces are most cosmetic. Here is the sad part, the Mustang was moved to our backyard last night and will be covered very tightly and very lovingly for the winter. It will have to be a summer project. The point is Kyle is very excited and happy to have it and to have the project to work on for the next 10 to 20 years. I'll try to get some better pictures of it before we cover it.

Saturday night, Libbi had a play date. Kjersti and Dan came down from Logan just to take her to see.....

Libbi was very excited to go and play with Kjersti and Dan, as long as it was Kjersti's car, not Dan's truck. She doesn't like Dan's truck, but she likes Dan. (No Lie, that's what she told me all afternoon.) She loved the movie and she loved her play date! Thanks Kjerstin and Dan for coming to play with her. Maybe we'll be getting Dan a Rollo for Christmas....

Other than those exciting moments this weekend, it was business as usual. On the plus side, one more day of work this week and then it's time for the holidays to start!

I Promise, It's a Curse from my 5th Grade Teacher!

So I just got an email from my mom, informing me that something on my blog was spelled incorrectly. Those of you who know me, know that I don't spell. I'm not good at it, I don't pretend to be good at it and I rely a lot on spell check. I think it's a curse from my 5th grade teacher, who told my parents during a parent-teacher conference, that it didn't matter if I could spell, I would always have spell check! Thanks Mom, for pointing out my flaws and helping me succede!

Weekend Fun

As part of my grand adventurous weekend....Libbi and I went to my parents house. Last weekend, Kjerstin and I were talking to Carly about setting up a blog! She wasn't sure she could do it, because she didn't think it would be easy. So last night, we set Carly up a blog! I will be excited to read about her adventures. That is about as exciting as my weekend got. Saturday we just hung out and did a little shopping at Libbi's new favorite store....Target. Sunday we went to Grandma Venita's for Gracie's birthday dinner. Kyle went out on his motorcycle with his dad and his brothers yesterday. I bet he's sore today! Good thing he had the day off. Sorry, this is kind of a boring post. But really, I wanted to get Carly's blog on the map.

Funny Photos

Ok, so last night Libbi and her aunt Kenzi were playing hide and run and be silly seek. We hid Libbi in the towel cupboard upstairs. Below are the pictures of the adventures.

Libbi hiding

Libbi told Kenzi to get in the cupboard and I told them Kenzi was to big, so just to prove me wrong, Kenzi climbed on in!

This is just so you can see where she was exactly.

Update

Just wanted to do a quick update....most of you know my mom had knee surgery yesterday. She says she's doing well, but her nerve block is starting to wear off. A couple of weeks ago she stepped off a chair in the school room and messed it up again. The doc said the ACL repair went well. Libbi wants to go to Grandma's house so bad she can hardly stand it, but with Grandma not being able to chase her around, it might not be the same for a while. Anyway, I just wanted to give an update!

Happy Veterans Day!

I wanted to let all the Veterans out there know how much I appreciate what they have done for me and for this country. I also wanted to thank and honor my Grandpa for his never ending enthusiastic pride in America. I don't think I've ever not seen a flag in his front yard. I love that he is so patriotic. He is a great example of an American Citizen and a Veteran of World War II. He is one of my heros and I wanted him to know how much I love him and appreciate him for all he's done. Thank you for the amazing example you have set for me in many ways.
(This is a picture of him from last years 4th of July parade, it is one of his favorite holidays!)

Weekend Fun!

It was one of those eventful weekends, without much to do. Friday night, Kyle went and bought a new yard ornament, but it will all be worth it in the end. I promise to post a good picture when we actually take delivery on it. (This one is the one the previous owners posted on KSL.) He is very excited and this has been on of his needs for a long time. The price is right and it has all the parts needed to restore it, but it will definetly need some love. I'm happy for him and for us, I love this style and year of Mustangs. We also saw a really bad accident that was in the intersection right out side Libbi's daycare. We walked over to look at it because Libbi loves Firetrucks and "Amblances." Lately, she hasn't wanted to sit in her car seat or be buckled in. Don't worry, it's not an option, but she fights with us alot about it. So we took the opportunity to to explain to Libbi why she ALWAYS HAS to sit in her carseat, no exceptions. She has been talking about it all weekend.

Saturday we went to have lunch and a play date with one of the girls I work with and her two girls. Her girls will be going to Libbi's school, so we thought it would be fun to get them together for a playdate before they started at Libbi's school. We had lots of fun with them. Thanks Jess for a fun afternoon. Here are some pictures of the girls:

Jess even got Libbi past the ropes and all the way to the top of the play place for a couple of turns down the big slide. Saturday morning, Libbi was trying to negociate a treat before breakfast with this explination, "Mom, I need a treat, one for me, one for you and one for your friend Jess and one for her girls. I will share." As cute as that explination was, she didn't get a treat. Saturday afternoon, after lunch, we headed to Target, my favorite store, for some winter clothes shopping. Libbi is was in desperate need of new jammies and new jeans. We found lot's of random stuff, but had fun wasting some time.

Sunday we went to breakfast with Kyle's dad. Libbi was happy to be out and spend some time with him. Somewhere between breakfast and leaving for dinner at my parents house, I lost my cell phone. I guess I'll have to turn the house upside down this afternoon to find them. Last night we went to dinner at my parents house. It was fabulous and it was so fun to do dinner with just my family. Kjerstin and Dan came down from Logan. Libbi was just so happy to have everybody around and paying attention to her. I hope we get to do it many more times, because it was so nice to be together without needing a special occasion. There are pictures, but silly Mom, she has some class today and can't send them to me until later, so more pictures to come!

Happy Friday!

Can I just tell you how long this week feels like it's been! I will be so happy for some sleeping in and relaxing. With November starting, my work schedule is messed up again, so getting used to the new schedule has been fun. It was even more fun to try to adjust Libbi's schedule to the new one. I don't think the dark gray weather has helped much. It's hard to go to work when it's dark and leave when it's dark. I know Kyle is feeling the same way. At least he gets to see the sun during the day. My desk faces the inside of the building, so to see the outside, I have to turn all the way around. I know that winter is officially on it's way, but it was a nice long summer and we enjoyed it. On the plus note, Libbi was extremely happy when I picked her up from school last night. It's always nice to have a happy 3 year old at the end of a long day. We'll have to see how today goes, she was not a happy camper to have to be up early this morning and be left at school. Anyway, that's about it, I just needed to vent a little. Hopefully we will have a great weekend, we have a couple of things we are going to do, so it should be a good break from the daily work routine.

Happy Anniversary!

So today marks my one year anniversary with Marriott Vacation Club. I can't believe that it's already been a year. It's been a great year, that's for sure. Marriott is so good to their employees and we do lot's of fun things to keep us happy. I have meet some great people that I can call my friends and found that I actually like working during the daylight. There are a lot of first with this last year. Libbi has been doing so good at daycare, which we now call school. She still doesn't like us to leave her, but she has fun. She must, since she comes home and plays daycare. She's the teacher and her kids are imaginary but they exist. My family has also enjoyed the benefit of my job. My parents have taken multiple vacations using my fabulous employee discount. I joke with my mom that she will never be able to stay in a no name motel on the side of a road again. They came back from Japan and Hawaii and after staying in our property on Oahu, my mom wants to know where to get the bed. This is what Marriott gave us as our anniversary gifts:

Don't get excited, it's only a $5.00 gift card. We might be able to buy batteries with it. It's the thought that counts. Anyway, it's been a great year and I'm hoping for many more.

Monday Madness

We had a crazy Monday. Kyle was invited to the Metallica concert with his uncle last night, so I told Libbi that we would go do something fun. We had movie passes to use, so we decided to go see a movie. Guess what one Libbi picked!?! High School Musical 3. We decided we would go see the 5:25 show, since then it was still a matenee...that would have worked, except
that I forgot to factor in traffic. So we got there about 25 minutes late. So we decided we would go see the next show. That meant we had some time to kill before our movie started. So we played in the arcade, mostly just pushing buttons and ran around to get the wiggles out and then bought our kids meals. Popcorn, drink and a treat and walked over to the theater to see the movie. The last time we went to see a movie, we went to the dollar theater. No booster seats and Libbi fell down the hole between the back of the seat and the seat. I was a little concerned about it and looked everywhere for a booster for her. We finally found one and I set her up in her chair. She looked so big with her popcorn and her booster, we were all ready to see the movie. Problem was, we still had another 10 mintues. At this rate, the popcorn was going to be gone. She sat in her seat for about 20 minutes before she got down and started to crawl all over the stairs and run up and down the isles. Lucky for us, there were only about 20 people in the theater. I finally got annoyed and hauled her out of the theater to take her home. She calmed down and said that she would sit in her chair like a big girl and she wanted to stay. So back to the movie and our assigned seats we went. I moved her in so that I was sitting on the isle and she stayed pretty still for most of the movie. The last 20 minutes were brutal, she was done. As for the movie, I would recomend waiting until it's in the dollar theater if you are insistant on seeing it in the theater or waiting for it to be on video. I found it hard to follow. As far as Disney movies go, it's a Disney movie. We had fun and Libbi crashed about 10 minutes after being in bed. I let her sleep by me since Kyle was going to be gone until late. She has some issues with both of us not being close to her when she needs to sleep. Anyway, that's what we all did last night! Kyle said the concert was awesome. They were on the 3rd row, but the stage was 360 Degrees, so for 1/3 of the show, the lead singers were right in front of them.

Halloween.....Part 2

Here is the Kitty Cat named Libbi. She had so much fun trick-or-treating and being a kitty. A big thanks goes to Grandma Cynthia and her help getting Libbi's kitty costume made. She loved it. She had a long tail and fur all around her jacket and pants and her little white gloves for paws and a headband of ears. She got tons of candy. They did a little Halloween party at school and everybody had to bring a treat to share, then we went to Daddy's work to trick-or-treat a little and then to my work for trick-or-treating to the manager's offices. After all that, we took her around to a few of our neighbor's houses. She loved trick-or-treating. Every house we went to, she would walk up and knock twice on the door while saying "Knock, Knock, Trick-or-Treat!" And then pick out the candy that she wanted. We would walk away from the house and she would say, "I think we need to trick-or-treat at another person's house." And off we would goo.

We took a few Halloween pictures at Travis and Sheri's on their fabulous spiral staircase. It was a fun night and she was a cute little kitty. Hope everybody else had a Happy Halloween!

Halloween......Part 1

Happy Halloween Everybody! I love today! Above is a picture of most of my team here at Marriott. We are trying to win the costume contest. Most of the team were Greek Gods or Goddess, those of us who weren't as creative or had enough time to put a great costume together just had toga's. Thanks to Leigh who went all out to make sure everybody who wanted to play had the appropriate accessories. She is amazing! There are tons more pictures. I'll post the when I add some of Libbi in her Kitty costume.

Fall Picture Time

Ok, this is going to be a lot of pictures, but I want everybody to leave me some feed back about which ones they like and which ones they don't. It is tradition to take Libbi in October to Gardener Villiage and take her pictures. They always have such fun Fall stuff. Bare with me, it's going to be a long post. Thanks to Manda for going with us to be my second set of hands.
