I am really undecided about this and want you, my blog friends, to help me come to a decision. Feedback would be great and participation would be even better. One of the reasons that I love working for the company that I do,

is because of the community support that we offer. One of our main partners is Children's Miracle Network. Which is a main contributor to Primary Children’s Hospital here in Salt Lake? For the FIRST TIME EVER CMN is bringing their Torch Relay to Utah and we are participating as a partner. This is a great opportunity to show support for something that has been such a big part of my life.

But, I'm undecided about whether or not to participate in the walk...the last two days I've been thinking pretty seriously about it and I'm almost 99.9% sure this is something I'm going to do.
Here is the group participation part...Who else would like to participate in the walk? IF we have enough people who want to participate, we'll start a team, if there are only a few, then I'm going to stay with my work team and you are welcome to join. So I need to know how many people would want to walk/run in the relay. It's about 4 miles and will end at the Gallivan Center with a big party. (Marriott is planning the end party and we don't do anything small. Go big or go home!) The race is November 5, 2009 and starts at 11 am. If you walk/run, you get a t-shirt and a tote with snacks and water and lunch at the end with the huge party! You can also register your kids to join you...12 and under don't have to pay the $15 registration fee, but still get the perks. If you can't participate in the actual walk/run.....Don't worry, you can still play. Those of us who will be in the race will be accepting donations. Everything that is donated will go directly to Primary Children’s Medical Center. For those of you who don't live in Utah, never fear, you will still be able to participate. When you donate under me or another team member, your donations go to the CMN partner hospital in your area. If you want to be included or want more information on how to register to participate, please leave me your email address in the comments, don't worry, they won't show. We need to get a team together fairly quickly, so don't delay, don't think about it to long. Our goal is to have each person raise $250 in donations. That is in now way a requirement or required. Also, when you are donating to this race, it's a flat donation and can be whatever you want to donate. If you want more information, again, leave me your email address and we'll get an email prepared for those of you who want more information or want to register. Now, Who Wants to Play?!?!
I want to share with you all why this is such a big deal to me and why I'm all "gung ho" about it. Most of you know about my little sister, Carly. She is amazing. She is the most loving and caring person I know. She is the best example of a Christ-like person I know. She has given these amazing qualities because of the trials she has had to endure. Don't get me wrong, we fight like sisters, we disagree and she has done her fair share of annoying her older sister. And she's really, really good at it. Many of my early childhood memories include some sort of involvement with PCMC and Carly. From doctor's visits, to surgeries, to hospital stays. I remember watching through the window of the NICU after Carly was born and seeing her there in her bed with tubes and waving to my mom through the window. The hallway smelled like bubble gum. (This was in the old Primary Children's Hospital) I know there are pictures of this, but I do remember looking through that window to see the penguin I had made in Kindergarten and given to my mom to give to Carly. I think it was in that hall way that I made the decision the first time that I wanted to be a nurse, a NICU nurse at that. My plans changed over the years, but when I graduated from high school, I was set to be a nurse. (That plan was modified and then put on hold a short time later.) But it didn't change how I felt about the people who are able to work and care for sick kids. We have taken Libbi into the emergency room there, mostly because I would rather take her to a place I know specializes in children. She was severely dehydrated after having the flu for a few days when she was about 8 months old. They were so good and so caring. Lib got an IV for fluids and all I remember about that night is that she had on her turquoise flower footie jammies from Grandma Cynthia's house and Kyle sleeping on the stretcher and holding Libbi while the fluids ran in her iv in her hand and her sleeping about as peacefully as she had slept in days. I was so grateful to have a hospital so close to help us out. About a year after Libbi was born, I was offered a job on the Neuroscience/Trauma Unit at Primary Children's Hospital. This was an amazing opportunity for me. I loved my job, and I loved the people I worked with. They were/are amazing. It was so a great opportunity for me to be able to care for kids who were chronically ill, for those kids whose lives were briefly interrupted and for those families whose lives as they knew them started a new journey to "normal". Primary Children's is amazing, they will never turn away a family for any reason, they are allowed to get the medical treatment that they need and sometimes it's more than medical treatment that is offered. It's the support that you aren't alone; it's the support that somebody else has been through this. Sometimes it's the fact that there is somebody there to listen. Sometimes it was finding a new family, your hospital family, that once you go home, you may never see them again, but you know that if you need them, they would be right there to help you. There are so many things that I gained from my time there that I will never be able to share. This I will share put your helmet on EVERY SINGLE TIME....No exceptions! And watch for kids behind your vehicle, walk around have a spotter.
Ok, enough mushy stuff. You know, at Marriott, we have fun and lots of it! Here is the question of the day... Who Wand’s to Come Play with Us and Have Some Fun!?!?!
